CROP WALK 2023

Damascus Help sponsors this hunger walk to raise funds for CROP (stands for Citizens Responding to Overcome Poverty).  CROP is a cooperative ministry of 36 Christian dominations and communions working together to eradicate hunger and poverty and to promote peace and justice among the world’s most vulnerable people.  This walk symbolizes the miles people in some parts of the world must travel by foot for food and water.

Our CROP walk will take place on Sunday, October 8th, 2023, at the Damascus Regional Park starting at 1:30pm.  The 3.6-mile walk is safe and off road but follows a paved walking path.  It is ideal for families, friends, youth and other types of groups.  The path will be monitored for us by members of the Damascus Emergency Communications Team (DECT).

The walkers obtain sponsors who contribute money toward their walk.  The money is donated to CROP for their programs and 25% of what we raise is sent back to Damascus HELP for our programs.  This year is the 53rd anniversary of the Damascus CROP Walk, and it is the longest continuously running one in the US.  Damascus HELP was started in 1969 to help our neighbors in need.  We have seen a great need for food since coming out of the pandemic in our service area which includes Damascus, Clarksburg, Laytonsville to Brink Road and Germantown to Brink Road.

We have a website CROPHungerWalk.org where you can search for Damascus and register for online giving.  Send the link to your sponsors via an email and they can click and donate money toward your walk.  You can also find short videos about CROP and what they do to help with hunger needs.
